HOW IT WORKS

From the engine.
To the bigger picture.

The vehicle connection and the internet connection do different jobs. Understanding that distinction is the starting point for an effective ELD system.

System architecture illustration. Vehicle, interface, and software compatibility require verification.

01

Start with the vehicle.

A compatible engine interface connects to the commercial vehicle's diagnostic port. The interface must provide the engine information required by the ELD design; connector shape alone does not establish compatibility.

ECM / VEHICLE NETWORK
02

Connect to the mobile device.

Bluetooth links the vehicle interface to the phone or tablet. This local connection is separate from cellular service. The mobile device hosts the driver experience and must reliably handle connection state.

LOCAL / BLUETOOTH
03

Make the record understandable.

The driver interface brings engine observations and driver actions into a daily record. Duty states, annotations, and clocks need clear presentation, with an explicit distinction between observed and entered information.

DRIVER / DAILY RECORD
04

Synchronize deliberately.

The architecture calls for durable local storage and authenticated synchronization when internet access is available. A connection interruption should be visible, with pending records retained and retries handled explicitly.

NETWORK / SYNCHRONIZATION
05

Bring context to the carrier.

An authorized carrier workspace provides the operational view. Driver records, vehicle connection state, and review history should remain associated with the correct organization and accessible only to appropriate roles.

FLEET / OPERATIONS
↳

A phone location is not an engine connection.

For a standard ECM-connected ELD, GPS alone does not replace integral synchronization with the vehicle's engine. Location and engine operating information serve distinct purposes.
